ISLAMABAD: Pakistani intelligence agencies have made a major breakthrough in the investigation of the recent Islamabad attack. Officials say key evidence recovered from the blast site has helped identify the attacker and trace his background.
Investigators found a national identity card among the debris. The document confirmed the identity of the Suicide Bomber as Yasir. According to officials, this discovery provided a critical lead in the case. The finding allowed security agencies to move quickly and expand the scope of the investigation.
Authorities revealed that Yasir had been living in Afghanistan for the past five months. He reportedly returned shortly before carrying out the attack. The target was a Shia mosque in Islamabad, where worshippers had gathered for Friday prayers. The incident took place at Masjid-e-Khadija-tul-Kubra.
Eyewitness accounts say the Suicide Bomber attempted to enter the mosque during the Jumma congregation. Security staff stopped him at the entrance after noticing suspicious behavior. At that moment, he detonated the explosives he was carrying. The blast caused widespread destruction and panic at the site.
As a result of the explosion, at least 32 people were martyred. More than 170 others sustained injuries of varying severity. Emergency teams rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Doctors declared several victims to be in critical condition.
Following the identification of the Suicide Bomber, security forces conducted a targeted operation in Peshawar. The raid was carried out at Yasirโs residence. During the operation, two of his brothers and one woman were taken into custody. They were moved to an undisclosed location for detailed questioning.
Officials believe the arrests will help uncover the network behind the attack. Intelligence agencies are now examining possible links to facilitators and planners. Forensic teams are also analyzing explosive material and other evidence recovered from the scene.
Security has been tightened in Islamabad and other major cities. Authorities remain on high alert to prevent further incidents. Checkpoints have been increased, and surveillance has been enhanced at sensitive locations.
