The district administration has announced a two-month ban on flying drones and camcopters in Islamabad under Section 144. The decision was made on Tuesday to address potential security threats in the federal capital.
According to the official notification, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including drones and camcopters, is prohibited during this period. The ban does not apply to law enforcement agencies or the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, which may continue using these devices for official purposes.
The District Magistrate stated that drones and camcopters could endanger sensitive installations and public safety. Authorities fear they might be misused for surveillance or disruptive activities, making this precautionary step necessary to maintain law and order.
The measure comes as part of heightened security protocols across Islamabad, particularly ahead of major national events and gatherings. Officials have warned that violations of the ban will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
Security experts have noted that while drones are often used for photography, filming, and recreational purposes, they can also be exploited for unlawful activities. The administration’s move is aimed at preventing such risks before they occur.
Residents have been advised to comply with the directive to avoid penalties. Businesses involved in drone-related services have also been urged to temporarily suspend operations within the city limits until the ban is lifted.
This is not the first time such a ban has been imposed in Islamabad. Similar restrictions have been introduced in the past during sensitive periods to safeguard public safety and protect high-security zones.
