Authorities have revealed that the ongoing investigation into the Peshawar FC Headquarters attack in November has uncovered links to the Islamabad blast threads.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Chief said the attack on the Federal Constabulary (FC) Headquarters appeared to be planned across the border. He added that the Islamabad blast threads are showing similarities with the Peshawar attack in terms of explosives and strategy.
โIn both attacks, the method of using explosives and gaining access to the target was almost identical,โ the police chief explained. โThere is also a similarity in the terroristsโ use of suicide vests.โ
The official suggested that an organized gang may be facilitating terrorists to reach their intended targets. He praised security forces for thwarting the Peshawar attack on November 23, which resulted in the deaths of three terrorists. Tragically, three FC personnel were martyred while stopping the attack.
The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) has finalized its report on the incident. The attackers used a total of 20 kilograms of explosives divided among three suicide jackets. Each jacket contained 6 to 7 kilograms, with explosives placed at the front and back. Analysis indicates the blast could have caused damage within a 30-meter radius.
The BDU report also recovered additional materials at the site, including two feet of Prima cord, two 2-millimeter ball bearings, and a two-feet-long wire cut in the middle. After the initial blast, two more attackers tried to enter the premises, but prompt action by security forces prevented further casualties.
The connection between the Islamabad blast threads and the Peshawar FC attack highlights the growing coordination among terrorist networks in Pakistan. Authorities continue their investigations to track down the organized gang responsible and prevent future attacks.
