Development work on the long-delayed Green Enclave-I project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
The project’s joint venture partner, Dr. Hafeez Abbasi, gave the assurance on Tuesday. He briefed the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works.
The committee reviewed delays affecting the Housing Society and the difficulties faced by thousands of allottees.
The meeting was chaired by Senator Nasir Mehmood. Members raised concerns about the project’s prolonged delay and rising costs.
Senate Committee Reviews Green Enclave-I Delay
Committee members discussed why development had remained delayed for several years.
The project had received legal clearance after the Supreme Court quashed a National Accountability Bureau inquiry in 2018.
Despite that development, work on the project continued to face delays. The prolonged timeline has also significantly increased the overall project cost.
A third-party assessment was presented during the meeting. It found that payments released so far corresponded with around 52% of completed work.
The assessment provided the committee with an updated picture of development and payments related to the project.
FGEHA and JV Partner Complete Negotiations
The committee was informed that negotiations between FGEHA and the joint venture partner have now concluded. However, approval of the increased project cost remains pending before the FGEHA Executive Board.
The board is scheduled to consider the matter on September 9. Dr. Hafeez Abbasi assured the committee that the Housing Society project could be completed within 18 months.
However, the completion timeline depends on securing the required approvals.
The development could provide relief to thousands of allottees who have been waiting for progress on the project.
Quarterly Site Visits Ordered to Monitor Progress
The Senate committee also introduced measures to monitor future development work.
It ordered quarterly site visits to review progress at the Green Enclave-I project. FGEHA was also directed to provide the committee with a copy of its new agreement with the joint venture partner.
These measures will allow the committee to track progress and review implementation of the updated arrangement.
FGEHA Recovers Encroached Land in Islamabad
The meeting also reviewed encroachments affecting FGEHA schemes.
Officials informed the committee that authorities had cleared more than 60% of encroachments from these schemes. Around 3,000 kanals of encroached land have also been recovered in Islamabad.
The Green Enclave-I Housing Society remains under scrutiny as authorities work to resolve outstanding development issues.
The next major step depends on approval of the revised project cost by the FGEHA Executive Board.
