Islamabad’s Another Major Road to Get Direct Motorway Connectivity

A major infrastructure project has started to directly connect Margalla Road with the Motorway. The aim is to improve travel for citizens in Islamabad. This project is expected to ease traffic pressure in the city.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the site. He inspected the ongoing construction work. He also received a detailed briefing on the project progress. Officials informed him about key engineering plans and timelines.

The project will create a 2.7-kilometer direct route. It will improve access between Islamabad and the Motorway. The road will include a three-lane carriageway on both sides. A two-lane service road will also be built for local traffic.

Two underpasses are part of the design. One bridge will also be constructed on GT Road. These structures will help improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in busy areas.

The main goal is to reduce travel time for commuters. The new link will provide a faster route to the Motorway. It is expected to reduce pressure on existing roads in the capital.

During the visit, Mohsin Naqvi issued clear instructions. He directed officials to complete the Sangjani Interchange on GT Road by July 31, 2026. He stressed that timely completion is necessary for smooth integration with the larger road network.

He also highlighted that the project must meet high quality standards. Transparency and efficiency were described as key priorities. The government wants to ensure better transport facilities for the public.

Officials confirmed that the project is planned for completion by December 2026. A 2.5-kilometer section will be built under the Punjab government. This will further strengthen connectivity with the Motorway system.

Senior officials also attended the visit. These included the CDA Chairman, the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, and the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad. They reviewed progress and discussed future planning.
