ISLAMABAD โ Islamabad Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive Traffic Plan for the central 9th Muharram procession. Several major roads will remain closed from 7:00 am until the conclusion of the procession to ensure security and smooth management of traffic.
According to officials, the main procession will begin from Imambargah Isna Ashari in G-6/2 at 1:00 pm. However, traffic diversions under the new Traffic Plan will be enforced several hours before the event starts.
The procession will move along the G-6 Service Road and Saddar Road. It will then proceed through Street 33 and Street 40 before reaching Municipal Road. The route will continue through Melody Chowk, Shuhada Chowk, Aabpara Police Station, and Polyclinic. The procession will then travel via Luqman Hakeem Road before concluding at the starting point in G-6/2.
To support security arrangements, several roads will remain closed throughout the event. Fazal-e-Haq Road will be closed in both directions between Kulsum Plaza Chowk and China Chowk. Suhrawardy Road will also remain closed on key sections, including routes connecting Daman-e-Koh Chowk, Chand Tara Chowk, and parts of Blue Area.
Saddar Road will remain inaccessible between Iqbal Hall and Melody Chowk. Municipal Road will also be closed between Lal Masjid, Shuhada Chowk, and GPO Chowk. Meanwhile, Luqman Hakeem Road will remain fully closed from Polyclinic to Iqbal Hall.
The Traffic Plan also includes several alternative routes for commuters. Motorists traveling between Kulsum Plaza Chowk and China Chowk have been advised to use Jinnah Avenue. Depending on their destination, drivers may also use Margalla Road and open portions of Suhrawardy Road.
Authorities stated that traffic approaching Aabpara can use Suhrawardy Road where available. Shaheed-e-Millat Road will also remain open and can serve as an alternative route during road closures.
Traffic police have urged citizens to cooperate with officials and follow all traffic signs. Commuters have been advised to allow extra travel time due to expected congestion around the procession route.
People participating in the event have been instructed to park vehicles only in designated parking areas. Officials also advised the public to avoid affected roads and follow the announced Traffic Plan until normal traffic operations are restored.
