A terrifying jackal attack occurred in a village near Jokhia Mor in the hilly area of Nooriabad. A 15-month-old girl, her mother, and her father were injured during the incident. All three were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Residents said the wild jackal bit the infant severely on the face, causing serious injuries. Family members raised an alarm, prompting the animal to flee the house. The quick response from the household prevented further harm.
District Health Officer Peer Ghulam Hussain confirmed that all three victims have received the first dose of the anti-rabies vaccine. Authorities are monitoring their condition and advised the public to remain cautious in areas where wild animals may roam.
The jackal attack has raised concerns among local villagers, highlighting the increasing encounters with wild animals in the region. Residents said such attacks create fear, especially for children and the elderly. The hilly terrain and nearby forests make it easier for wild animals to enter residential areas.
This incident comes amid reports of similar wildlife threats in other parts of the country. Last year, Seri village in Murree faced repeated attacks by ferocious wild leopards. The attacks not only caused injuries but also led to financial hardship for villagers, as livestock and property were frequently targeted.
In Murree, the scenic forests and lush greenery attract visitors, but the presence of predatory animals like leopards has made local life risky. In a recent case, a leopard attacked an elder manโs goats while they were grazing, showing how sudden and dangerous wildlife encounters can be.
Authorities urge villagers to stay vigilant and take preventive measures. Ensuring proper fencing, supervising children outdoors, and informing local wildlife officials of any aggressive animals can reduce risks of jackal attack or other wild animal incidents.
The Nooriabad jackal attack serves as a stark reminder of the challenges rural communities face living near forests and wildlife. Officials are expected to increase patrolling and awareness campaigns to prevent future attacks.
