The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has confirmed that water supply from the North East Karachi Pumping Station has been restored after repair work on a major power issue involving the K-Electric cable.
Officials said the disruption had earlier caused a serious shortfall in water supply across the city. The fault in the K-Electric cable led to a suspension of electricity at the pumping station, which directly affected water distribution in multiple areas of Karachi.
According to KWSC, the breakdown resulted in a daily water shortfall of around 122 million gallons per day (MGD). This worsened the ongoing water crisis and created major difficulties for residents already struggling with limited supply.
A spokesperson for KWSC stated that power has now been fully restored after K-Electric completed repair work on the damaged K-Electric cable. The restoration has allowed pumping operations to resume normal activity.
The spokesperson added that electricity to the North East Karachi Pumping Station was suspended on May 31 due to the fault. This interruption had halted water flow through the K-II and K-III systems.
After restoration, water supply through both systems has resumed. Officials confirmed that distribution is now being carried out according to regular schedules.
The KWSC further said that the K-Electric cable fault had a major impact on Karachiโs overall water supply network. Several areas of the city faced severe shortages during the outage period.
Residents across Karachi had already been dealing with an ongoing water crisis for nearly two months. Many households were forced to rely on water tankers and private suppliers to meet daily needs.
The situation also drew political criticism. Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman blamed the provincial government for failing to resolve the long-standing water issue in Karachi.
He said citizens continued to face shortages even during Eid, while basic civic services remained under pressure.
Authorities say with the repair of the K-Electric cable, the pumping system is now stabilizing. They expect gradual improvement in supply across affected areas as the system returns to normal operations.
