New Official Prices For Pulses, Rice, And Spices Announced in Karachi

Commissioner Karachi Hasan Naqvi has issued new official prices for essential food items and spices, effective immediately. The announcement aims to regulate the market and provide relief to consumers.

Under the notification, all wholesalers, retailers, and departmental stores are required to prominently display the new official prices in their shops. The Commissioner warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone charging above the notified rates or violating the orders.

The revised rates for pulses are as follows: daal mash at Rs335 per kg, daal moong at Rs340 per kg, daal masoor and daal chana both at Rs200 per kg. Kabuli chana has been fixed at Rs295 per kg, while black chana will sell for Rs190 per kg.

For rice, kernel basmati rice is priced at Rs365 per kg, and standard basmati rice will be available at Rs195 per kg.

Spices have also received new rates. Red chilli powder has been fixed at Rs750 per kg, with whole hybrid red chilli at Rs560 per kg. Whole coriander is priced at Rs430 per kg, and coriander powder at Rs480 per kg. Turmeric powder has been set at Rs590 per kg, while whole turmeric will sell for Rs535 per kg.

The Commissioner emphasized that these measures are intended to stabilize the market and provide consumers with affordable prices. Enforcement teams will actively monitor markets across Karachi to ensure that all traders comply with the new official prices.

Market analysts say that such strict enforcement of fixed rates could help prevent sudden price hikes, benefiting both consumers and retailers. The announcement is part of ongoing efforts to maintain market transparency and ensure fair trading practices throughout the city.

Residents of Karachi are advised to check price lists at stores before purchasing and report any violations to authorities. With the new official prices now in effect, consumers can expect regulated rates for key groceries and spices in the coming weeks.
