Karachi Launches Crackdown on Illegal Roadside Advertising Campaigns

The Karachi Municipal Corporation has launched a major crackdown against illegal advertising campaigns on city roads and highways, officials confirmed on Friday. The move aims to improve traffic safety and maintain the city’s visual appeal.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said that city wardens have begun removing unauthorized advertising banners along key roads, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Baloch Colony, and Tariq Road. Political flags and hoardings displayed without proper approval will also be removed from major highways.

The Mayor emphasized that the crackdown is part of a broader effort to enforce city regulations and ensure that public spaces are not misused for unauthorized promotions. “Those who eclipse the beauty of Karachi will be dealt with strictly,” he warned.

Companies and organizations running advertisements without permission will face legal action, Wahab added. Officials said that prior warnings had been issued, but many advertisers ignored regulations, prompting the current enforcement drive.

The crackdown has received support from residents who welcomed the removal of cluttered banners and political flags. Citizens noted that unauthorized advertising not only damages the city’s appearance but can also pose risks to drivers by distracting them.

Karachi authorities plan to continue the operation over the coming weeks, targeting both commercial and political banners. City wardens have been instructed to act swiftly while ensuring public safety during the removal process.

Officials also highlighted that legal companies wishing to advertise on city roads must obtain proper permits. This step is intended to balance business promotion with urban safety and aesthetics.

Mayor Wahab reiterated that the enforcement drive will be strict but fair. He urged businesses, political parties, and individuals to comply with the rules to avoid penalties.
