Karachi Dairy Farmers Demand Major Increase in Milk Price

Dairy farmers in Karachi have demanded a sharp increase in the official Milk Price due to rising operational costs. Farmers say the current rates are no longer enough to continue dairy business activities in the city.

According to reports, the Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association has asked authorities to increase the official Milk Price by Rs. 100 per liter. The association submitted a formal request to the Commissioner Karachi for a revision in rates.

Farmers say business expenses have increased significantly over the past months. They pointed to higher costs of fodder, electricity, petrol, and transportation. These rising expenses have created serious financial pressure on dairy businesses.

Association representative Shakir Gujjar said the dairy sector is currently facing a severe economic crisis. He explained that farmers are struggling to continue operations under the existing pricing structure. According to him, many dairy businesses are finding it difficult to manage daily expenses.

The association also claimed that fodder and other milk production inputs have become nearly 75% more expensive. Farmers believe the current official Milk Price does not reflect the actual cost of production. They argue that without a price revision, many dairy suppliers may face further financial losses.

Another industry representative, Mubashir Qadeer Abbasi, warned that milk supply in Karachi could be affected in the coming weeks. He said many dairy farmers are facing shortages of working capital. This situation could reduce milk availability in different parts of the city if financial conditions do not improve.

The demand for a higher Milk Price may create additional pressure on consumers already dealing with inflation and expensive food items. However, dairy farmers insist that increasing operational costs have made the current official rates unsustainable.
