Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced a major development plan for Karachi, aiming to modernize the cityโs infrastructure and manage traffic. The plan includes an initial package worth Rs 84.796 billion, with an additional Rs 262 billion approved for the cityโs projects.
Talking to a delegation from the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) on Wednesday, CM Shah said, โI want to launch the development plan in partnership with the FWO.โ He emphasized that the cityโs mega projects should match the standards of the worldโs best cities, focusing on design and architecture.
The development plan includes several key road and flyover projects. One major road will connect M-9 Jinnah Avenue to Shara-e-Faisal, linking the Super Highway with other important city highways. Another flyover will provide direct access from the airport to Shara-e-Faisal, easing traffic for travelers.
Additional projects include the construction of Hawkes Bay Road from the Y-junction to Machhli Chowk and a road from Masroor Base to the Truck Stand. CM Shah also highlighted a flyover at Sohrab Goth, a key gateway to Karachi, to address heavy traffic congestion in the area.
The plan also covers 443 internal roads across nine projects aimed at improving traffic management. Furthermore, 26 Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) roads will be constructed, alongside renovations of existing roads, parks, and flyovers.
CM Shah directed FWO engineers and local government officials to begin design work immediately. He instructed that all design and utility transfer issues be resolved by February, with development works set to start by March 26.
The development plan represents one of the most comprehensive efforts to improve Karachiโs infrastructure. Officials hope these projects will reduce traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and provide modern facilities for residents.
With the collaboration between the FWO and local authorities, the CM expects timely completion and effective execution of the plan, aiming to transform Karachi into a city with world-class infrastructure and better urban management.
