KARACHI: Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed has revealed new details about the deaths of five family members in Karachi. Two victims died from gunshot wounds to the head, while the causes of death of three others remain unconfirmed.
The victims were found dead inside their home in a private housing society near Gulshan-e-Hadeed. The area falls within Karachi’s Bin Qasim region. The incident occurred during the night between Monday and Tuesday.
According to Dr Summaiya, Shahzaib and his wife, Saba, sustained gunshot wounds to their heads. Shahzaib was approximately 35 years old, while Saba was between 28 and 30.
Medical authorities collected samples from both victims for gunshot residue testing. Samples were also taken for chemical analysis and DNA profiling.
Causes of Three Family Members’ Deaths Await Reports
The causes of death of the remaining three family members have not yet been confirmed. They include Shahzaib’s sister, Shumaila, and his two daughters, Aizal and Arya.
Shumaila was between 20 and 22 years old. Aizal was approximately five years old, while Arya was three.
Dr Summaiya said samples from all three victims had been collected for further examination. These include chemical analysis, serology and DNA testing.
The final findings will depend on the results of the relevant forensic reports. Authorities have not yet established the circumstances surrounding all five deaths.
Police Investigation Continues
The Police have not determined whether the incident involved murder or suicide. The investigation remains ongoing, and a case had not been registered at the time of the report.
Investigators are expected to examine forensic evidence and other available information. The findings may help establish the sequence of events and the exact causes of death.
A handwritten note was also recovered from the house. According to reports, it referred to the family’s financial difficulties and strained relationships with relatives.
The note reportedly stated that Shahzaib had not received support from relatives during a difficult period. However, the contents of the note do not establish the circumstances of the deaths.
Authorities are awaiting further reports before reaching any conclusions about the incident.
Farooq Sattar Calls for Economic Policy Review
Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader and Member of the National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar expressed grief over the tragedy.
He said the incident should prompt serious reflection on the country’s economic conditions. He highlighted poverty, hunger and financial hardship faced by ordinary families.
Sattar also acknowledged the government’s responsibility to address these challenges. He said public representatives must recognise their own role and take practical steps.
He questioned economic policies that leave families struggling to afford basic necessities. Sattar stressed that the government should reconsider its approach if citizens cannot provide two meals a day for their children.
The Karachi tragedy has raised concerns about financial hardship and family difficulties. However, investigators have yet to establish the full circumstances surrounding the five deaths.
