A major garments factory collapse Karachi was reported on Tuesday after a massive fire broke out in the cityβs New Karachi Industrial Area. The three-storey building could not withstand the flames and came down, injuring several people.
The incident took place in Sector 8-A, where firefighters and rescue teams were working to control the blaze. Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion just before the structure collapsed, sparking panic among onlookers. At least five people, including a cameraman, suffered injuries.
Officials confirmed that several firefighters were dangerously close to the factory when it caved in. Initial fears suggested that some rescue workers might be trapped under the debris. However, Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan later stated that no personnel were stuck inside after the collapse.
Emergency teams, including police, Rangers, and additional rescue units, quickly arrived at the site. Search and relief operations continued for hours as smoke and fire complicated efforts. Authorities urged citizens to stay away from the area to prevent further injuries.
According to fire brigade officials, the blaze began on the ground floor and spread to the upper levels within minutes. More than 15 fire tenders and a snorkel were deployed to tackle the flames. Crews worked in difficult conditions as the fire intensified and weakened the buildingβs structure.
Thankfully, no workers were inside the factory at the time of the fire, and no fatalities have been reported so far. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Investigations are underway to find out whether faulty wiring, negligence, or other factors led to the disaster.
This incident has raised new concerns about industrial safety standards in Karachi. The city has witnessed similar tragedies in the past, highlighting the urgent need for stricter safety enforcement and regular inspections in factories and industrial zones.
