Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has inaugurated a new double-decker bus service in Karachi. The buses will initially operate between Shahrah-e-Faisal and Malir.
Recalling Karachi’s transport history, Memon noted that the city once had trams and double-decker buses. He said the revival of this service represents a return to a more efficient public transport system. If the trial phase succeeds, a larger fleet of buses will be procured to expand the network.
The minister highlighted that the state-of-the-art double-decker buses offer greater seating capacity. They are designed to help reduce traffic congestion while providing improved comfort for daily commuters. Memon expressed hope that a comprehensive network of these buses would cover Sindh within the year.
Sharjeel Memon also emphasized ongoing efforts to improve city roads. He said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and other authorities are working continuously, and he expects many road issues to be resolved by March or April.
The fare for the double-decker buses will match that of the existing People’s Bus Service. The designated route will run between Malir and Shahrah-e-Faisal, ensuring affordability and accessibility for passengers.
In addition to the new double-decker buses, Memon announced measures to remove overhead wires across the city to improve traffic flow and safety. He also revealed plans to introduce electric buses, with routes expected to become operational within the next two to three days.
The launch of the double-decker bus service is a key step toward modernizing Karachi’s public transport system. Officials hope it will provide a reliable, efficient, and comfortable commuting option for thousands of city residents.
