Police Foil Major Oil Theft Attempt Through Tunnel From National Oil Refinery

Karachi authorities have intercepted a major oil theft attempt in the Korangi Industrial Area. Police confirmed that four suspects involved in the major oil theft from the National Oil Refinery have been arrested.

The operation, coordinated by a local criminal group, involved constructing a 17-foot-deep tunnel stretching 140 meters. Authorities recovered pipes, clamps, and other tools used for the theft. Police stated that the suspects had planned to siphon oil directly from refinery pipelines.

An FIR has been registered at Bin Qasim Police Station against three named suspects: Abdul Wahab, Javed, and Hasan Jatoi. The complaint was filed by refinery officials following the discovery of the tunnel.

The National Oil Refinery management has been informed of the incident and is cooperating with the authorities. Police emphasized that this major oil theft could have caused significant financial and environmental damage if successful.

This is not the first attempt at stealing oil in Karachi. Previously, authorities intercepted another theft attempt along the oil line from Port Qasim to Multan. In that case, tunnels of six feet depth and pressure connections had been laid, but the operation was stopped before any oil could be siphoned.

Officials warned that groups involved in major oil theft often use sophisticated equipment and underground tunnels to evade detection. They urged refinery management and security personnel to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately.

The police investigation is ongoing to determine if the arrested suspects were linked to larger criminal networks involved in oil theft across the region. Authorities also plan to strengthen surveillance in industrial areas to prevent future attempts of major oil theft.

Karachi Police said that their continued efforts aim to safeguard national resources and ensure that refinery operations remain secure. Residents and industry stakeholders have welcomed the prompt action, highlighting the importance of timely intervention in preventing large-scale thefts.

This incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by organized criminal groups targeting critical infrastructure, and the need for constant vigilance by law enforcement and industry management.
