Karachi Shivers Early Morning Temperature Falls to 7.4°C Amid Cold Wave

KARACHI – A severe cold wave continued for the third consecutive day in Karachi and across Sindh on Saturday, with temperatures dropping further and residents struggling with the chill.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), early-morning temperatures in parts of Karachi fell into single digits. The lowest recorded temperatures were around 7.4 °C in Bin Qasim and Mauripur.

Meteorologists said chilly winds from Balochistan, combined with a western weather system, intensified the cold. The “feels-like” temperature dropped even further due to strong winds across the city.

The cold wave worsened after light rainfall on Thursday afternoon, which contributed to sharper nighttime temperature drops. PMD officials warned that these conditions could persist over the next few days.

In rural areas of Sindh, temperatures were even colder, with some locations outside Karachi reporting near or below freezing levels. The ongoing cold spell is expected to last through the weekend, affecting both urban and rural communities.

Authorities advised residents to take precautions, particularly the elderly and children, who are more vulnerable to cold-related illnesses. Hospitals and health departments in Karachi have been alerted to prepare for an increase in patients suffering from cold and flu.

Experts also encouraged citizens to stay indoors during early mornings and nights and to wear warm clothing when venturing outside. Meteorologists predicted that while daytime temperatures may rise slightly, strong winds and chilly nights will continue.

The cold wave in Karachi and Sindh highlights the need for public awareness and safety measures during winter, especially in areas prone to early-morning frost and temperature dips. Residents are advised to follow weather updates from PMD to stay informed about changing conditions.
