Why Did The Victim’s Family Forgive The Suspect in Karachi DHA Hit-And-Run Case?

Why Did The Victim’s Family Forgive The Suspect in Karachi DHA Hit-And-Run Case?

In Karachi’s Defence area, the family of a food delivery rider has granted a family pardon to the man who fatally hit him. The incident occurred on Khayaban-e-Ittehad when a speeding vehicle struck the rider, Farhan.

The accused, identified as Asghar Ali Bhangwar, was released by police shortly after the incident. Authorities have not formally briefed the media about his arrest or subsequent release.

According to reports, both Farhan and the driver, Hassan, were taken to a local hospital immediately. Farhan later died from his injuries during treatment. Despite the severity, police provided no updates to the public for nearly 16 hours. During this time, it is reported that out-of-court negotiations were ongoing between the families.

Officials later confirmed that Farhan’s family granted a family pardon “for the sake of Allah.” No written agreement or official documentation of the settlement has been released. Details about the conditions of the pardon remain undisclosed.

Documents obtained by authorities reportedly include statements from Hassan and Farhan’s father, as well as bail papers. However, questions persist about the events between the accident and Farhan’s burial. Police had earlier indicated that a case would be registered after the burial, but this did not occur. The alleged reconciliation agreement has also not been made public.

The lack of transparency has raised concerns, with some reports suggesting pressure from the suspect’s influential family. Observers note that this could explain why no formal case was filed on behalf of the state.

Experts say that while a family pardon is allowed under local laws, it usually requires careful documentation to prevent legal complications. In this case, the absence of official records leaves many unanswered questions.

The incident has sparked debate about the enforcement of traffic laws, accountability, and the influence of powerful families in Karachi. Authorities have yet to clarify how such reconciliations are monitored and whether public interest is fully protected.

Farhan’s death remains a tragic reminder of road safety risks, while the family’s pardon highlights the legal and social complexities in Pakistan’s justice system.
