Karachi experienced a sharp dip in temperature as dense fog covered large parts of the city on Saturday, causing major disruptions. The thick fog reduced visibility to near zero along the M-9 Motorway, creating hazardous driving conditions for commuters.
The fog spread across key areas, including Northern Bypass, University Road, Karimabad, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, II Chundrigar Road, Clifton, Defence, Surjani Town, and Sohrab Goth. The iconic city skyline disappeared into the mist, giving Karachi a surreal, ghostly appearance.
Karachi Weather Update
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a warning stating that cloudy and foggy conditions are likely to persist for the next 24 hours. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 28ยฐC and 30ยฐC, while night temperatures dipped to 17โ17.5ยฐC. Humidity levels reached 95%, combined with a gentle northeast breeze at 7 km/h, intensifying the foggy conditions.
The Karachi Weather has caused significant disruptions in air travel. Jinnah International Airport reported that six international flights were diverted due to low visibility. Some flights were redirected to Muscat, while one private airline flight was sent to Islamabad. The Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA) confirmed that these diversions are routine safety measures, although passengers experienced delays and inconvenience.
Local authorities urged drivers to exercise extreme caution on fog-covered roads and recommended avoiding unnecessary travel. Motorists were advised to use fog lights, maintain safe distances, and reduce speed to prevent accidents.
The persistent fog in Karachi is part of a wider weather pattern affecting southern Sindh, with other coastal areas also experiencing low visibility and cooler temperatures. Residents are advised to stay updated on the Karachi Weather reports and follow safety instructions from authorities until conditions improve.
With dense fog expected to continue, commuters and travelers in Karachi should plan accordingly, keeping in mind that road and air travel may remain affected over the next 24 hours.
