Monsoon rains across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 29 through Thursday have resulted in 24 fatalities and 17 injuries, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The province, typically experiencing monsoon season from July to August with average rainfall of about 255mm per month, saw significant damage in 2022, with over 75,000 homes destroyed and 130,000 partially damaged in KP alone.
The recent heavy rainfall led to flooding due to saturated flood basins, overflowing rivers, and overwhelmed drainage systems. Most casualties occurred in Kohat, where 10 people, including six children, died from roof collapses and rain-related incidents.
