At least 18 kidnapped bus passengers were reported after a passenger bus was attacked this morning on the Guddu-Kashmore link road. Early reports say a gang of 15 to 20 bandits opened fire at the bus near Mureed Branch, taking hostages from over 30 people on board.
Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers fired for almost half an hour. Only male passengers were taken, while those accompanied by women were left behind. Several passengers, along with the bus driver, sustained injuries during the attack.
DSP Obauro Abdul Qadir Soomro confirmed that police launched a search operation immediately. โSo far, 10 kidnapped bus passengers have been recovered from the katcha area of Sonmiani,โ he said. โUnfortunately, a body of one passenger was found in a sugarcane field.โ
Overall, 13 bus passengers have been rescued, and the search is ongoing in Sonmiani and surrounding areas. Police have cordoned off the area to prevent further movement of the bandits. Two of the recovered passengers were injured and are receiving treatment at a secured location.
SSP Ghotki stated that a police contingent led by the DIG is actively involved in the operation. Armoured carriers, modern equipment, and drones are being used to locate the remaining kidnapped bus passengers.
Injured passengers have been transferred to Rahim Yar Khan hospital for medical attention. A heavy contingent of police and rangers continues to pursue the armed gang in nearby farmlands. Authorities assure that all possible measures are being taken to recover the remaining hostages safely.
The incident has raised concerns over security along the Guddu-Kashmore link road. Police urge residents to remain alert and cooperate during ongoing operations.
