Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi criticized the Punjab and federal governments on Tuesday, claiming that there is a form of โcivil martial lawโ in Punjab.
Speaking to media, Afridi said that PTI leaders and supporters face restrictions, questioning the type of democracy being practiced. He alleged that senior PTI members are being subjected to harsh treatment.
The KP chief minister highlighted that over Rs 4,400 billion in funds payable by the federation remain unsettled. He emphasized that the merged districts are not receiving their rightful economic shares, causing strain on provincial development.
Afridi stated, โWe are working for the betterment of the province despite limited resources. It is essential that everyone cooperates to eliminate terrorism and maintain law and order.โ
The remarks came a day after a security meeting between Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi at the PM House. Officials discussed law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as the implementation of federal responsibilities.
The meeting also addressed allocations from the 13th Finance Commission and other pending matters. The chief minister reportedly briefed the prime minister on the provincial concerns regarding security and resource distribution.
High-level officials present at the meeting included Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, KP Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam, Prime Ministerโs Political Affairs Advisor Rana Sanaullah, and Federal Minister Amir Muqam.
Afridi reiterated that timely release of funds payable by the federation is critical for KPโs development and the welfare of merged districts. Delays in the disbursement of federal funds could hinder essential projects and programs.
The chief minister called for a coordinated approach between federal and provincial governments to ensure justice and economic rights for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He stressed that the province remains committed to peace, security, and development, despite the financial constraints caused by unpaid federal allocations.
The issue of funds payable by the federation is expected to remain a key topic in upcoming discussions between KP and federal authorities, highlighting the need for transparency and timely disbursement of allocated resources.
