KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Four MPAs Declared Absconders

KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Four MPAs Declared Absconders

Five members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have been Declared Absconders in terrorism-related cases registered in Islamabad. The list includes Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and four other MPAs. The decision was announced through official court notices issued this week.

According to court advertisements, the cases were registered by the Counter Terrorism Department in Islamabad. The accused include Sohail Afridi, Meena Khan, Amjad Ali, Shafiullah Jan, and Iqbal Afridi. Judicial authorities took the step after repeated failures to appear before the court.

The court has directed all five accused to present themselves within 30 days. The notices warn of strict legal action if they fail to comply. Officials stated that the accused were Declared Absconders following continuous non-attendance despite formal summons.

Official advertisements were published to inform the accused of their status. These notices legally confirm their absconder declaration. The court emphasized that coercive measures will follow if the deadline is ignored.

Police sources say the five MPAs belong to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. They are part of a wider group facing criminal cases in Islamabad. Reports indicate that nearly 70 out of 92 PTI MPAs from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa face active cases.

Law enforcement officials say most of these lawmakers have not secured bail. The cases include serious charges under anti-terrorism laws. Some also involve alleged attacks on police and Rangers personnel.

Authorities link many cases to violent protests held between 2022 and November 2024. These incidents resulted in clashes with security forces at several locations. Investigations remain ongoing in all related matters.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is wanted in at least 11 cases. Seven of these were registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Police records show allegations of violence against law enforcement officers.

His status as one of the Declared Absconders has drawn attention nationwide. It marks a rare move against a sitting provincial chief minister.

Former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur faces the highest number of cases. Police say 52 FIRs have been registered against him. These were filed across 18 Islamabad police stations.

In another development, police confirmed a case against Aqibullah. He is the brother of former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser. The case was registered at the Secretariat Police Station.

Officials stressed that the law applies equally to all citizens. Authorities said proceedings will continue according to court orders. Further action is expected after the 30-day deadline expires.
