ISLAMABAD: A federal court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in a case related to alleged misleading statements against state institutions.
The order was issued by Senior Civil Judge Abbas Shah on Saturday after Afridi failed to appear before the court multiple times. The judge directed law enforcement authorities to arrest him and present him in court. Further proceedings in the case have been adjourned until January 17.
The case was registered in November 2025 by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). It followed a complaint filed by a citizen accusing Afridi of spreading false and misleading videos on social media.
According to the complaint, the videos contained baseless claims intended to incite public confusion and hatred against state institutions. The FIR also alleged that Afridi made statements outside Adiala Jail that were later shared on the official Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media pages, further harming the reputation of national security organizations.
The issuance of the arrest warrant marks a significant development in this high-profile case. Legal experts say that non-compliance with court summons can escalate the matter and increase scrutiny from law enforcement.
Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the remarks made by Chief Minister Afridi against security forces. He said questioning the intentions of the armed forces undermines morale and damages public confidence in national security.
This case has drawn widespread attention due to Afridi’s position as KP chief minister and the nature of the allegations under PECA. Authorities have confirmed that the arrest warrant is to ensure his presence in court for investigation and further hearings.
