KP Launches Ehsaas Umeed Card for Persons with Disabilities, Orphans and Widows

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a major welfare package for vulnerable citizens. The initiative targets persons with disabilities, orphans, and widows across the province.

The announcement was made during a Khuli Kachehri in Swabi. The event was held specifically for differently-abled citizens.

Malik Liaquat Ali Khan attended the gathering as Advisor to the KP Chief Minister. He oversees Social Welfare, Zakat, and Ushr affairs.

He outlined several welfare initiatives under the current Annual Development Programme (ADP). The measures aim to provide financial support and improve economic opportunities.

Ehsaas Umeed Card Offers Monthly Financial Support

The Ehsaas Umeed Card Programme is being launched this week. It will provide direct financial assistance to eligible persons with disabilities.

Under the initiative, 10,000 eligible persons with disabilities will receive Rs 5,000 monthly. The payment is designed to provide regular financial support to deserving citizens.

A separate card-based programme will support qualified orphans and widows. Beneficiaries under this initiative will also receive Rs 5,000 every month.

The government plans to reduce difficulties during the registration process. Financial assistance will be transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

Registration services will also be available at applicants’ doorsteps. This approach aims to reduce travel and physical challenges for people with disabilities.

The Ehsaas Umeed Card is part of broader efforts to strengthen social protection in KP. The programme focuses on regular support instead of one-time assistance.

Rs 500 Million Interest-Free Loan Programme

The provincial government has also approved a Rs 500 million loan programme. The scheme will provide interest-free loans to differently-abled individuals.

The programme aims to help beneficiaries start small businesses. It is also intended to create sustainable sources of income.

Officials said the initiative focuses on long-term economic independence. It goes beyond providing temporary financial relief.

Rs 700 Million Scholarship Programme

Differently-abled students will also receive support through the Ehsaas Scholarship Programme. The government has allocated Rs 700 million for this initiative.

The scholarship fund aims to reduce financial barriers for special needs students. It will support higher education and skill development opportunities.

The programme is expected to help students continue their education. It may also improve their access to professional and vocational opportunities.

Additional Welfare Measures

The KP government has announced further support measures for persons with disabilities. These include a special quota under the provincial Dowry Fund.

The quota aims to reduce financial pressure on families during marriages. It will provide additional assistance to eligible differently-abled individuals.

The government has also highlighted spot grants for urgent needs. During the Swabi gathering, an elderly disabled citizen received Rs 50,000 in immediate assistance.
