The Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) in Peshawar has announced the suspension of free medical treatment under the Sehat Card program, leaving thousands of patients struggling to access healthcare.
According to a statement issued by the hospital administration, the decision was made due to the non-payment of funds for the Sehat Card scheme. Officials said that the government has not released the required funds to the insurance company responsible for managing the program.
Hospital authorities explained that the insurance company has failed to clear KTH’s outstanding dues, which amount to millions of rupees. Due to this delay, the hospital is now facing severe financial constraints and is unable to continue offering free treatment to patients under the Sehat Card initiative.
The suspension has caused significant concern among patients who rely on the Sehat Card for affordable medical care. Many families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa depend on this program to cover hospital expenses, and the halt in services has left them in a difficult situation.
Officials from Khyber Teaching Hospital urged the provincial government to take immediate steps to resolve the issue. They emphasized that timely payment of dues is essential to restore healthcare services and maintain hospital operations smoothly.
The Sehat Card program, launched to provide free medical treatment to citizens in both public and private hospitals, has been one of the key social welfare initiatives in the province. However, repeated delays in funding have led to disruptions in several hospitals.
