Lahore Once Again Ranked Second Most Polluted City In the World

Despite government measures, Punjab’s air quality remains alarming, and Lahore has once again been named the world’s second most polluted city.

According to the Punjab Environment Department, particulate matter in Lahore has reached 414, signaling hazardous air conditions. Other cities in the province are also experiencing poor air quality, with Khanewal at 412, Faisalabad at 354, and Multan at 342.

The World Air Quality Index ranked Lahore second globally with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 330. India’s capital, New Delhi, continues to top the list with a particulate matter level of 450.

Experts warn that prolonged exposure to such high pollution levels can cause severe respiratory and cardiovascular problems, especially for children and the elderly. Authorities have urged residents to limit outdoor activities and use protective masks when necessary.

Environmentalists criticized the slow implementation of pollution control measures. “Lahore’s air quality has worsened once again, showing that urgent action is required,” said a spokesperson from a local environmental group.

The government has previously announced initiatives to reduce pollution, including stricter vehicle emissions standards and industrial regulations. However, these steps have not yet resulted in significant improvement.

With air quality deteriorating, hospitals in Lahore report an increase in patients with respiratory issues. Citizens are advised to monitor AQI updates regularly and take necessary precautions to protect their health.

Analysts stress that unless immediate measures are taken, Lahore may continue to face severe pollution episodes. “The city has once again highlighted the challenges of managing urban air quality,” environmental experts noted.

Residents and authorities hope that upcoming policies and awareness campaigns will bring measurable improvements in the city’s air quality in the near future.
