The Punjab government has declared a five-day holiday in Lahore from February 4 to February 8, ahead of the Basant Festival. This break allows residents to participate in cultural festivities and spend time with family.
The holiday period begins with Shab-e-Barat on February 4, followed by Youm-e-Kashmir on February 5, both recognized as public holidays under Pakistan’s national calendar. From February 6 to February 8, the city will observe Basant Festival celebrations, giving citizens five consecutive days off.
During this period, schools, colleges, and government offices will remain closed. Authorities have urged the public to follow safety guidelines, especially while flying kites, as Basant Festival events often attract large crowds and carry potential risks.
Event organizers are planning regulated and safe activities for the Basant Festival, including kite-flying competitions, cultural shows, music events, and community gatherings. Officials stressed that the extended holiday aims to honor Lahore’s rich cultural heritage while offering citizens time for leisure and social engagement.
Residents of Lahore are encouraged to enjoy the Basant Festival responsibly. Authorities have emphasized monitoring crowd control and ensuring first-aid availability during outdoor events. Safety regulations will be strictly enforced to prevent accidents during kite-flying festivities.
The five-day holiday provides an opportunity for families to celebrate together, enjoy traditional Basant customs, and take part in the vibrant cultural experiences the festival offers. The government aims to balance public enjoyment with safety and tradition.
