Emerging lawyer and human rights activist Mahjabeen Zulifqar Ali passed away early Friday after a prolonged illness. She had suffered hypoxia following an allergic reaction and was treated at a private hospital in Karachi, where she remained under observation until her last moments.
Born on June 18, 1997, in Karachi, Mahjabeen Zulifqar hailed from Tarr Khowaja village in Sujawal district. She completed her Bachelor of Laws from Shaheed Zulifqar Ali Bhutto University of Law and began practicing law in Karachi with Mangi and Mangi Law Associates.
Throughout her career, Mahjabeen Zulifqar was deeply involved in human rights advocacy. She worked with the Sindh Human Rights Commission, Musawi, and the Legal Aid Society. Her cases primarily focused on womenโs rights, inheritance disputes, and property matters. In addition, she conducted awareness sessions on marriage rights, domestic violence laws, and child rights in Hyderabad and Karachi divisions.
The legal community expressed profound grief at her passing. Tributes poured in from prominent members of the Karachi Bar Association, including General Secretary Ghulam Raheman Korai, former Treasurer Raheel Samasam Ali Khan, Advocate Amanullah Maher, Advocate Rashid Hussain, Noonari, Nadeem Mangi, and Advocate Faiz Ahmed Chandio. Several candidates contesting the upcoming KBA elections suspended their campaigns in mourning.
Mahjabeenโs dedication to law and human rights earned her widespread respect and admiration across Sindh. Her efforts to educate communities and advocate for marginalized groups made her a significant figure among young lawyers.
She will be laid to rest in her ancestral graveyard in Tarr Khowaja, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, legal excellence, and activism. The legal fraternity and human rights community remember Mahjabeen Zulifqar as a committed advocate whose work inspired many.
