LESCO Provides Temporary Green Meters To Solar Users During The AMI Transition

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) announced a significant update on Green Meters, allowing the temporary installation of bi-directional green meters for the next three months. Consumers can now obtain solar meters until October 15, with applications open for No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to use these meters in their solar setups.

This decision comes after LESCO’s previous shift from Green Meters to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), which resulted in substantial cost increases, causing concerns among consumers and industry stakeholders. The challenges posed by the availability of AMI meters have also been a hurdle for solar energy users.

LESCO’s temporary reinstatement of Green Meters is aimed at providing a more accessible option for solar system owners. The company clarified recent reports about a ban on green meters, emphasizing that NOCs for AMI meters are being issued to tackle issues like over-billing and power theft.

Additionally, LESCO notified consumers in advance about power outages due to repair work on the I-Con Valley feeder, ensuring transparency through newspaper announcements.

This measure by LESCO is seen as a relief for solar users amid the transition period to AMI meters, addressing the immediate needs of those relying on solar energy while the company works on broader infrastructure upgrades.
