LHC Suspends No Helmet, No Petrol Rule

Shoaib Malik confirms availability for Pakistan's T20 series

The Lahore High Court (LHC) intervened on Friday to suspend the enforcement of the “No helmet, no petrol” directive issued by the deputy commissioner of Lahore. This directive mandated petrol stations to deny fuel to motorcyclists not wearing helmets and warned of potential fines for non-compliance.

Expressing significant concerns, the Lahore High Court invalidated the deputy commissioner’s directive, emphasizing the absence of a specific law explicitly prohibiting petrol sales to helmetless motorcyclists. The court stressed the importance of safeguarding citizens’ fundamental rights fairly and impartially.

The Lahore High Court questioned the legality of the directive, requesting responses from the deputy commissioner, the Inspector General of Punjab, and the Chief Capital City Police Officer of Lahore.

The court’s decision followed its formal notification to the federal government and other relevant stakeholders, seeking their input on this matter.
