Lightning Strike Kills Three, Injures Three During Heavy Monsoon Rains in Tharparkar

A Lightning strike during heavy monsoon rains claimed three lives and injured three others in Sindh’s Tharparkar district. The tragic incident happened in Islamkot after strong rainfall and thunderstorms swept across the region.

Heavy monsoon showers affected several parts of Tharparkar, including Chhachhro, Islamkot, and Nagarparkar. The rainfall brought relief from the heat but also created dangerous weather conditions.

According to initial reports, around 10 labourers took shelter under a tree during the rain in Islamkot. Moments later, a Lightning strike hit the tree, causing multiple casualties.

Three people lost their lives in the incident. The victims were identified as Sajan Meghwar, his young son, and Taj Muhammad Shah. Three other labourers suffered injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Rescue teams shifted both the deceased and the injured to the hospital soon after the incident. Officials have not released further details about the condition of the injured victims.

The district administration urged residents to remain careful during the ongoing monsoon season. Authorities advised people to avoid standing under trees or staying in open areas during rainfall and thunderstorms. Officials said these precautions can help reduce the risk of injuries and deaths caused by severe weather.

The recent Lightning strike has once again highlighted the dangers associated with monsoon storms in Tharparkar. The region has witnessed several similar incidents over the years, especially during the rainy season.

Weather experts often warn that lightning is more likely during strong thunderstorms. Taking shelter inside a safe building or a closed vehicle is considered the safest option during such weather.

Tharparkar has experienced deadly lightning incidents in the past. In 2019, lightning strikes killed 26 people across Tharparkar and the neighbouring Sanghar district during heavy thunderstorms. Among those victims were women and children.

Official records showed that 22 people died in Tharparkar alone, while four others lost their lives in Sanghar. The severe weather also caused the deaths of dozens of livestock, adding to the losses faced by local communities.
