RAWALPINDI: Defence chiefs from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye met in Riyadh under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The meeting focused on strengthening military cooperation among the three countries. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the development on Saturday.
Chiefs of Defence Forces and Chiefs of General Staff from the three states attended the meeting. They reviewed the security situation and threats facing Saudi Arabia.
The participants also discussed recent attacks targeting Makkah and civilian infrastructure. They strongly condemned attacks against the Holy City and economic facilities.
The officials appreciated the readiness of the Saudi Armed Forces. They also praised their efforts to protect people and secure the Kingdom.
Defence Cooperation Discussed
The meeting covered several areas of military cooperation between the three countries. The participants discussed improving coordination among their armed forces.
They also considered stronger intelligence-sharing mechanisms. Better military coordination and integration of capabilities were also discussed.
According to ISPR, these measures could strengthen collective defence efforts. The participants also discussed ways to improve deterrence among the three countries.
The officials highlighted the longstanding relations between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye. They also noted the mutual trust between their people and armed forces.
The meeting in Riyadh was described as an important step in their defence partnership. The participants expressed their commitment to implementing the agreement.
They said the commitments under the Makkah Agreement should be translated into practical military cooperation. The three countries also reaffirmed their commitment to collective defence.
Commitment to Saudi Arabia’s Security
The participants affirmed their support for Saudi Arabia’s security and sovereignty. They also stressed the importance of protecting its territorial integrity.
The ISPR said the three countries demonstrated their resolve to defend the Kingdom. The meeting also reflected their shared security commitments.
Under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, an attack on one member is treated as an attack on all three.
The agreement involves Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. Pakistan’s Foreign Office previously confirmed this key provision.
Foreign Ministers Review Agreement
Earlier, the foreign ministers of the three countries also reviewed the agreement. Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also attended that meeting. The talks were held in New York.
The ministers reviewed progress on implementing the Makkah Agreement. They discussed preparations for establishing the agreement’s general secretariat.
The meeting also covered plans for committees and working groups. Officials discussed steps needed to make these bodies operational.
The latest defence chiefs’ meeting shows continued coordination among the three countries. Their discussions remain focused on security cooperation and implementation of their joint commitments.
