Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan on Tuesday to discuss legislative matters, development projects, and the country’s overall situation.
The meeting focused on improving coordination between the provincial government and the Punjab Assembly. Both leaders also reviewed the national situation in light of recent global developments.
During the discussion, Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of strengthening the legislative process. She directed the Punjab Assembly Speaker to ensure active participation from both treasury and opposition members during lawmaking.
The chief minister said inclusive participation would help improve legislation and strengthen democratic institutions in the province. Both sides also discussed proposed prison reforms and agreed on the need for effective legislation in this area.
Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan appreciated the chief minister’s policy presented at the National Peace Message Committee. He also congratulated Maryam Nawaz on launching the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” initiative.
Responding to the praise, the chief minister said the project was the result of teamwork and the combined efforts of her government. She credited her entire team for helping turn the initiative into reality.
Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government continues to introduce public welfare projects across the province. She added that special attention is being given to underdeveloped and rural areas.
She highlighted ongoing efforts to improve public transport by introducing electric buses on rural routes. According to the chief minister, these services will improve travel facilities for people living outside major cities.
The government is also promoting the use of modern agricultural machinery to increase farming efficiency. Officials believe these measures will help improve agricultural productivity and support farmers.
Speaking about the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” scheme, Maryam Nawaz said the initiative has already benefited thousands of families. She stated that around 30,000 unemployed families across Punjab have received land and employment opportunities through the program.
The scheme is aimed at supporting unemployed people by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in the agriculture sector. The provincial government hopes the project will also strengthen rural development and reduce unemployment.
The meeting concluded with both leaders agreeing to continue close coordination on legislative affairs and development initiatives. They emphasized the importance of cooperation between the government and the Punjab Assembly to ensure effective governance.
