Salman Akram Raja has refuted statements made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senator Mashal Yousafzai, calling them false and baseless. Raja defended PTI founder Imran Khan and said Yousafzai would be held accountable after February 8.
Speaking outside Adiala Jail, Raja described Mashal Yousafzai’s claims as lies and rejected reports that Aleema Bibi had ended her sit-in outside the jail. He emphasized that spreading false information cannot be considered loyalty to Imran Khan.
Raja also praised the PTI founder’s sisters, calling them a pillar of dedication and sincerity. He noted that all of Khan’s ongoing cases are actively pursued, even in areas where justice may be uncertain.
The controversy stems from an interview by Mashal Yousafzai, in which she discussed the sudden end of the 28th January Adiala Road protest. Yousafzai said the decision to end the sit-in was made solely by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, following party discipline, and not influenced by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister or other parliamentarians.
According to Yousafzai, the protest was initially planned to continue until morning. She stated that parliamentarians opposed ending it, but Raja, citing instructions from Imran Khan’s family, ordered its conclusion. She added that party discipline required compliance, and Raja later announced the sit-in’s end on camera.
Raja further commented on recent political discussions, saying it remains unclear what was discussed between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. He confirmed he would meet Afridi later in the evening. On the PK-4 billion issue, Raja said Afridi maintains that the funds were not intended for operations.
