Mayo Hospital Lahore MS Held in Multi-Million Stent Corruption Probe

LAHORE: Anti-Corruption authorities have detained the Medical Superintendent (MS) of Mayo Hospital Lahore, Dr. Abdul Mudabbir Rehan, after he allegedly failed to appear before an inquiry team investigating corruption allegations.

According to the Anti-Corruption spokesperson, the investigation began after a complaint was filed by Dr. Ahmad Kamal. Officials launched a formal inquiry following the emergence of a video that allegedly showed suspected corruption at Mayo Hospital Lahore.

Authorities said Dr. Mudabbir Rehan was asked to appear before investigators. However, he reportedly did not respond to the official notice. As a result, officials detained him to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The inquiry has gained significant attention after CCTV footage allegedly showing a cash transaction inside the Medical Superintendentโ€™s office went viral on social media. Investigators are examining the authenticity of the footage as part of the case.

According to the allegations under review, the person handing over the cash was a vendor associated with the hospital. The money was allegedly received by an employee working in the MS office. Officials claim the transaction took place in the presence of Dr. Abdul Mudabbir Rehan.

Investigators have not yet announced any final findings. They are continuing to gather evidence before reaching any legal conclusions.

The probe also includes allegations involving the disappearance of hospital stents worth millions of rupees from Mayo Hospital Lahore. Authorities are examining whether the missing medical equipment is linked to the alleged financial irregularities.

Officials believe both matters require a detailed investigation. They are reviewing financial records, procurement documents, and other relevant evidence to determine whether any laws were violated.

The Anti-Corruption spokesperson confirmed that forensic experts are examining the available video evidence. Additional material is also being collected to support the inquiry. Investigators said the forensic review will help verify the authenticity of the footage and identify everyone involved.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation is still in progress. They said no final decision has been made regarding the allegations at this stage.

Officials added that further legal action will depend on the outcome of the inquiry and the evidence collected during the investigation. If the available material supports the allegations, additional proceedings may be initiated under the law.

The case has attracted public attention because Mayo Hospital Lahore is one of Punjabโ€™s largest public healthcare institutions. The hospital serves thousands of patients every day and plays an important role in providing medical care across the province.

The alleged corruption case has also raised concerns about transparency and accountability in public healthcare institutions. Many observers are closely following the investigation as authorities continue to examine the evidence.

The Anti-Corruption department has assured the public that the inquiry will be conducted according to legal procedures. Officials said further updates will be shared after the investigation is completed and all available evidence has been reviewed.
