Mirpurkhas — A tragic incident has brought renewed focus on student safety in educational institutions. A third-year medical student at a private college in Mirpurkhas reportedly took her own life. Her family has alleged that ongoing harassment by a teacher led to this extreme step.
According to the family, the student had been facing harassment for some time. They claimed she was under severe mental stress due to the situation. The case has sparked concern among students and the wider community.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has taken notice of the incident. The council has requested complete records from the medical college. It has also asked the provincial government to provide its inquiry report on the case.
Officials said the matter will be reviewed carefully. The council has a strict policy against harassment in educational institutions. Authorities warned that anyone found responsible will face strong action.
Rizwan Taj, President of PM&DC, stated that the disciplinary committee will investigate the case. He said students can directly report complaints to the official harassment committee. This system is meant to ensure quick action and support for victims.
He further explained that a safe learning environment is a basic requirement. Any form of harassment, threats, or misconduct is a serious violation of rules. Institutions that fail to protect students may also face consequences.
PM&DC has reminded all colleges about mandatory anti-harassment committees. These committees must be active in every medical and dental institution. Their role is to handle complaints and ensure student safety.
The incident highlights the importance of addressing harassment cases without delay. Experts say early action can prevent serious outcomes. Students are encouraged to report issues and seek help when needed.
