Mianwali, Jhang Jails Turn into Drug Hubs, Says Shocking Report

Mianwali, Jhang Jails Turn into Drug Hubs

A recent medical screening report and leaked videos have exposed alarming drug abuse inside Mianwali and Jhang jails, raising serious concerns about prison oversight and internal corruption.

According to the report, prepared by a government-appointed medical officer, dozens of inmates in both prisons tested positive for narcotics during routine screenings. The officer described the situation as “out of control,” adding that Mianwali, Jhang jails have turned into drug hubs, where narcotics are easily available despite strict laws and jail protocols.

The investigation revealed that inmates had unrestricted access to heroin, hashish, and even synthetic drugs. Videos shared by whistleblowers show prisoners using drugs openly inside their cells, without fear of punishment. Some videos also indicate suspected collusion between jail staff and drug suppliers.

Officials familiar with the matter stated that medical officers at both facilities were initially sent to evaluate inmate health but quickly discovered widespread substance abuse. In several cases, repeat offenders were found using drugs just weeks after rehabilitation sessions.

Inside Access and Negligence

Sources close to the inquiry said the drugs were being smuggled in with the help of corrupt officials. In some instances, family visits and food parcels were used as cover to bring narcotics inside. Authorities are now probing whether prison guards and junior staff played a direct role in the distribution network.

“The drug situation in these prisons is not just a leak, it’s a flood,” one official remarked. “We must treat it like a security crisis.”

Punjab Government’s Response

The Punjab Home Department has ordered an immediate investigation. A special inquiry team has been formed to visit the affected prisons and identify the responsible parties. A crackdown is expected soon, focusing on both the supply chain and the prison staff.

Human rights activists have demanded urgent reforms and accountability, saying this is not an isolated incident.

Unless swift action is taken, experts warn that Mianwali, Jhang jails will continue to operate as drug hubs, undermining the justice system and damaging inmate rehabilitation.
