Karachi police have formed a high-level investigation team to probe the murder of businessman Mir Raza Ali, whose body was found in Gulistan-e-Jauhar earlier this week. The move comes as investigators continue to gather evidence and pursue those responsible for the killing.
According to a police statement, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Azad Khan ordered the formation of the special team to ensure a thorough investigation. The team has been directed to examine every aspect of the case and speed up efforts to arrest the suspects.
SSP SIU/CIA Samiullah Soomro has been appointed to lead the investigation. The team also includes SSP East Zubair Nazir Ahmed Shaikh and SP Investigation East Usman Sadozai. Officials said the officers will work together to review all available evidence and identify those involved.
The investigation team has also been given the authority to seek support from any police officer within the Karachi Range. In addition, the officers must submit a daily progress report to the AIG Karachi. This step is intended to ensure close monitoring of the investigation and maintain regular updates on developments.
The Mir Raza Ali case has gained significant public attention after investigators recovered important CCTV footage linked to the incident. According to reports, the footage was obtained from the digital video recorder (DVR) of a shop located in Bahadurabad. Police seized the recording device shortly after the case was registered.
Investigators believe the CCTV footage could provide valuable clues. The recording was captured on the day Mir Raza Ali went missing. It reportedly shows his movements one to two hours before his disappearance.
In the footage, Mir Raza Ali can be seen entering his shop. He then opens a drawer and removes a holster containing a .30-bore pistol. Police are now reviewing the footage carefully to understand the sequence of events before he disappeared.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report has provided important medical findings that differ from earlier reports. Initial claims suggested the victim’s body had been burned in an attempt to destroy evidence. However, the medical examination found no signs that the body had been set on fire.
According to the post-mortem report, the businessman died after suffering a single gunshot wound to the chest. Doctors concluded that the cause of death was haemorrhagic shock caused by severe bleeding from the bullet injury.
The police surgeon also confirmed that there was no evidence of burning on the body. However, the examination noted signs of decomposition. These findings have ruled out earlier reports that the suspects tried to hide the victim’s identity by burning the body.
Police officials say the investigation is continuing on multiple fronts. The newly formed team will examine forensic evidence, CCTV recordings, witness statements, and other available information. Authorities hope the coordinated effort will help identify and arrest those responsible for the murder.
