KARACHI: A judicial court has ordered the exhumation of Mir Raza’s grave and directed authorities to conduct a fresh post-mortem examination. The decision marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the controversial death of Mir Raza.
The order was issued by a Judicial Magistrate (East), who approved a petition filed by Mir Raza’s father. He has consistently rejected the official claim of suicide and insisted that his son was murdered. The court instructed the Secretary of Health to immediately form a medical board and ensure the exhumation process is carried out without unnecessary delay.
During the hearing, Mir Raza’s father questioned the police investigation. He argued that several important questions about his son’s death remain unanswered. He maintained that the original inquiry failed to establish the full facts of the case. According to him, a second post-mortem is necessary to determine the actual cause of death.
The state prosecutor did not oppose the request for exhumation. During the proceedings, the court remarked that the state also supported the request for further investigation, allowing the petition to move forward.
The case has remained under public attention since Mir Raza died under controversial circumstances. His family has repeatedly challenged the findings of the first post-mortem report. His father claimed the body was handed over to the family within an hour, raising concerns that important evidence may have been overlooked.
Fresh questions have also been raised by medical experts. Police Surgeon Dr. Samia Syed said there were noticeable inconsistencies between the original post-mortem report and available photographs. She pointed to swelling and dark marks on different parts of the body. She also highlighted conflicting observations regarding the direction of the gunshot wound.
Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Azad Khan responded to these concerns. He explained that the police surgeon’s comments were based on photographs rather than a physical examination. He said investigators relied on the report prepared by the medical legal officer. However, he acknowledged that the family had the legal right to request exhumation and a second post-mortem.
A forensic expert also called for an independent review of the case. He recommended that a medical board conduct a detailed examination. According to the expert, the original post-mortem report did not fully address several important aspects of the investigation. He stressed that all available medical and forensic evidence should be reassessed.
Meanwhile, investigators have made progress in examining digital evidence. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh successfully unlocked Mir Raza’s Apple Watch. Officials recovered transaction records and other digital information that may help investigators reconstruct the events before his death.
Police said both the Apple Watch and iPhone had previously been recovered by Karachi East Police. Authorities found that data from the devices had been erased before they were sent to the CTD digital forensic laboratory. While experts managed to retrieve information from the smartwatch, efforts to access data from the iPhone are still underway.

Officials confirmed that investigators have collected additional evidence but have not disclosed details because the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are expected to hold a press conference within the next 48 hours to share further updates after reviewing digital evidence, CCTV footage, and forensic findings.
