Monsoon Rains Claim Lives Across Punjab, More Rain Expected Till July 1

A fresh spell of monsoon rains has triggered a series of tragic incidents across several cities in Punjab, leaving at least seven people dead and many others injured. The fatalities resulted mainly from roof collapses, flash floods, and lightning strikes as heavy rains swept through the region.

In Jhelum’s Bada Gawah area, a rain-swollen drain caused a loader vehicle to overturn, sweeping away a rickshaw. Two passengers drowned, while six others were rescued by emergency teams. Meanwhile, Lahore experienced heavy rainfall but reported no fatalities.

Okara reported two separate incidents — one girl died and two were injured in a roof collapse, while another man suffered serious burns due to a lightning strike.

Mian Channu witnessed the death of a young man and injuries to another in a lightning incident during the storm. In Chiniot, four individuals were injured when a verandah roof gave way near Jhang Road, blamed on prolonged moisture weakening the structure.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that the current monsoon system is expected to continue until July 1, urging vulnerable districts to remain alert and take precautionary measures.
