LAHORE โ Dense fog enveloped parts of Punjab, prompting authorities to shut down major highways, including Motorway M-2 and Motorway M-11. The closures disrupted early-morning commutes and left many travelers stranded.
Motorway Police confirmed that the shutdown was necessary to prevent fatal accidents. Officials warned that even a brief lapse in attention in such conditions could result in disaster.
Authorities issued an urgent advisory for drivers: travel only during daylight, ideally between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., use fog lights on both front and rear, avoid unnecessary trips, and maintain safe distances from other vehicles.
Officials emphasized that winter fog in Punjab frequently causes serious accidents. Motorway M-2 and other highways become high-risk zones during low-visibility conditions, making caution essential for all travelers.
The Motorway Police spokesperson urged the public to stay alert and monitor real-time updates. Travelers in need of assistance can call the dedicated helpline at 130.
Despite the inconvenience, authorities said the closures were necessary to save lives. Motorists are advised to postpone non-essential journeys and exercise extreme caution when driving in foggy conditions.
