The government of Sindh has moved ahead on a major infrastructure plan. The headline is clear: “Sindh CM Finalizes Timeline for Construction of South Asia’s Longest River Bridge”.
At a recent meeting, the Chief Minister announced that work on the Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge is back on track and will finish by June 2027.
The Ghotki‑Kandhkot Bridge will stretch over the Indus River and measure approximately 12.15 km. With this length, it is set to become the longest river bridge in South Asia.
Officials said the original bridge plan was for 3 km, but after recent floods and recommendations from the Indus River Commission, the design was expanded to the current 12.15 km.
The project faced delays earlier. Work stopped because labourers had security threats from bandits in nearby katcha areas. Now, with security and commitment from the government, construction has resumed.
During the PPP Board meeting, the Chief Minister urged all departments to avoid further delays. He said he will personally inaugurate the bridge in June 2027.
According to project reports, as of November 2025: piling work stands at 54% complete, shafts at 49%, and transom installation at 47%.
Local officials believe the bridge will transform connectivity. It will link northern Sindh with Punjab and Balochistan, thus improving trade and travel across provinces.
Further, the bridge is expected to reduce travel times across the Indus River, support economic growth, and improve security for people living in remote riverbank areas.
In short, Sindh CM Finalizes Timeline for Construction of South Asia’s Longest River Bridge reflects renewed focus on timely delivery. If all goes well, by mid‑2027, the Ghotki‑Kandhkot bridge will stand as a major infrastructure milestone for Sindh and Pakistan.
