Murree, Pakistanโs most popular hill station, is preparing for a massive influx of tourists this Eid ul-Fitr. Authorities have issued a Weather Advisory due to expected rain and strong winds during the holiday period.
District Police Officer Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer estimated that 400,000 to 500,000 tourists may visit Murree, raising concerns about traffic congestion, safety, and accessibility. Authorities are tightening security and traffic management measures to handle the surge.
The Weather Advisory warns travelers of hazardous conditions on mountainous roads. Tourists are urged to drive cautiously, follow traffic regulations, and avoid unnecessary risks. In case of emergencies, visitors can contact helpline 15 or use the Safe Tourism Murree mobile app for assistance.
Last yearโs Eid statistics highlight the scale of the challenge. On the first day, 28,688 vehicles entered Murree. Numbers rose to 51,380 on the second day, 57,855 on the third, and 35,119 on the fourth day, creating immense pressure on local infrastructure and law enforcement.
Authorities have set a daily vehicle entry limit of 8,000, though the cap may rise to 12,000 on peak days due to demand. Despite restrictions, heavy traffic congestion and delays are expected as tourists travel to the hill station.
The Safe Tourism Murree app is a central tool for ensuring safety. It provides instant access to police, Rescue 1122, traffic authorities, and motorway police. The app also features a virtual womenโs police station, WhatsApp contact with the DPO, hotel and destination information, and real-time updates, including Weather Advisory alerts.
Officials stressed that responsible planning and adherence to guidelines are crucial. Tourists are urged to monitor weather updates, travel during daylight, and follow instructions to prevent accidents and disruptions.
As Murree braces for one of its busiest holiday periods, the combination of heavy crowds and inclement weather makes the Weather Advisory a critical resource for visitors. Authorities continue to coordinate emergency services and ensure public safety throughout the festive period.
