NA Echoes Condemnation Over Raid at Achakzai’s House

The PPP and opposition parties, including the PTI and JUI-F, strongly condemned the raid conducted yesterday at the residence of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chairman and presidential candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai in Quetta.

PkMAP had alleged that the police raided Achakzai’s house without justification and arrested his guard, citing it as a reaction to a recent speech delivered by Achakzai in the National Assembly.

In response to the raid, the PkMAP’s central secretary general Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal announced a protest against the incident, emphasizing that the party and its leadership could not be intimidated by such actions.

During today’s National Assembly session, Achakzai reiterated that his house was raided for advocating the supremacy of Parliament.

PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, also addressing the NA session, condemned the raid and urged the prime minister to take notice of the incident, calling for a prompt investigation to prevent unnecessary controversy surrounding the presidential election.

PTI chairperson Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed strong reservations about the raid, asserting that it violated the sanctity and privacy of the lawmaker’s residence. PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need to avoid further conflict to prevent continued suffering for the nation.

The JUI-F spokesperson also condemned the police raid on Achakzai’s house, describing it as regrettable.

The Quetta deputy commissioner, who oversaw Sunday’s raid in coordination with local authorities, police, and the revenue department, stated that the raid aimed to reclaim an empty plot near Achakzai’s residence. He explained that a person was arrested for obstructing state affairs and brandishing a weapon at the assistant commissioner, further alleging that Achakzai had occupied government-owned land by enclosing it with walls.
