ISLAMABAD: Apple has appointed Salman Dar as its head of government affairs for Pakistan. The appointment is expected to strengthen the company’s engagement with Pakistani authorities.

He announced the appointment through a post on LinkedIn. Dar said he would lead Apple’s government affairs efforts in Pakistan.

The chief executive officer of the Engineering Development Board recently briefed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology.
According to the official, 37 companies are currently manufacturing mobile phones in Pakistan. These companies have collectively produced more than 35 million devices.
However, Apple remains the only major global company that has not started local phone manufacturing. Authorities are continuing efforts to bring the technology giant into the Pakistani market.
The EDB chief said discussions were continuing to attract Apple for local production. The government sees international investment as important for strengthening the technology sector.
He also informed the committee about a possible meeting between Pakistan’s prime minister and Apple’s chief executive officer.
The meeting is expected to take place during the prime minister’s planned visit to the United States. Such engagement could support discussions about Apple’s future investment in Pakistan.
