NAB apprehends Parvez Elahi in assets case

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president and former Punjab chief minister, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, faced another arrest shortly after his release from Adiala Jail. His initial 30-day detention under the 3rd Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) expired, but the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore apprehended him in a case related to assets from unidentified sources. Elahi’s lawyer labeled the arrest as politically motivated and announced plans to file a petition in the Lahore High Court.

Following the arrest, Elahi was presented before a Rawalpindi sessions court, where NAB requested a two-day transitory remand to move him to Lahore. However, the court granted only a one-day transitory remand and instructed the Investigation Officer to present Elahi before the relevant court on the following day.

This recent arrest came after Elahi’s initial detention on June 1 in a corruption case, which led to his release the next day, only to be arrested again in a different case. In July, his release was ordered in a money laundering case, but he was subsequently placed under 3rd MPO detention for 30 days by Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Rafia Haider.
