Islamabad: The NAB chief has announced major reforms in Pakistanโs real estate sector. He said new rules will be introduced within two months to improve regulation and transparency.
According to the NAB chief, the proposed reforms will be presented to the federal cabinet for approval. He said the existing file-based system in real estate will be abolished after the new framework is implemented.
He added that full responsibility in the new system will lie with real estate developers. The aim is to increase accountability and reduce misuse in property dealings.
During an informal media briefing, the NAB chief also confirmed that cases against parliamentarians are still ongoing. However, he said NAB has stopped issuing press releases on such matters.
He explained that several cases have already been transferred to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and anti-corruption departments for further action.
The NAB chief stated that suspects should be treated with respect, just like investigators. He also said the current institution does not fully agree with past practices of NAB.
Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed, the NAB chief, also strongly criticized international reports on Pakistan. He called the IMFโs diagnostic assessment โcompletely baseless.โ
He said the IMF would never give a clean bill of health to any country. His remarks came in response to concerns raised in the IMF Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment report.
The report had earlier highlighted issues of corruption and weak institutions affecting Pakistanโs economic stability.
The NAB chief also questioned the credibility of Transparency International. He asked about its funding sources and survey methods.
He said it was unrealistic to represent an entire country with a survey of only a few hundred people.
The NAB chief further highlighted NABโs recent performance. He said the bureauโs recoveries in the past three months were record-breaking on a global scale.
He clarified that all recovered funds are deposited into the national treasury. NAB does not retain any recovered money for itself.
