The nationwide anti-polio campaign is underway across Pakistan, aiming to vaccinate more than 45 million children. The seven-day drive will continue until December 21, covering all provinces and regions.
In Punjab, over 23 million children are set to receive polio drops. Sindh will vaccinate more than 10.6 million children, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa targets over 7.2 million. Balochistan will cover more than 2.6 million children.
Islamabadโs campaign will reach over 460,000 children. Gilgit-Baltistan will vaccinate more than 228,000 children, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will cover over 760,000 children. The campaign ensures that children across the country are protected against polio.
The National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) stated that more than 400,000 male and female polio workers are participating in the nationwide anti-polio campaign. The EOC emphasized that protecting children from polio is a shared responsibility and urged parents to fully cooperate with vaccination teams.
The campaign follows a similar drive in October, which reportedly did not meet its targets. During the October campaign, held from October 13 to 19, around 1,096,525 children missed vaccination. Among them, 721,296 children were unavailable, and 53,621 vaccine refusals were reported.
Authorities have highlighted the importance of the current nationwide anti-polio campaign to reach children missed during previous rounds. The focus is on ensuring maximum coverage and preventing any gaps in vaccination that could allow the virus to spread.
Officials stressed that polio remains a serious threat, and full cooperation from communities is crucial. Parents are encouraged to allow polio workers to vaccinate their children and help make the country polio-free.
The nationwide anti-polio drive reflects Pakistanโs continued commitment to eradicating polio and safeguarding the health of future generations.
