The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for heavy fog in South and Central Punjab for the next three days. Authorities warn that low visibility may affect road safety in major cities and towns.
Motorway authorities have closed several sections to prevent accidents. The M-2 motorway from Lahore to Islamabad and the M-3 from Lahore to Multan are currently closed. The M-4 section from Faisalabad to Multan and the M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir are also shut for traffic. Additionally, the M-11 motorway from Lahore to Sialkot remains closed.
NDMA said that a thick layer of fog is expected to cover districts including Lahore, Jhang, Multan, Khanewal, Mian Channu, Sahiwal, Okara, Pak Pattan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Lodhran, and Vehari. People in these areas are advised to stay alert while traveling.
In addition, fog is likely in parts of upper Sindh, including Sukkur. Islamabad and nearby areas may also experience foggy conditions during the night and early morning hours. The NDMA alert emphasizes caution due to reduced visibility, which can increase the risk of road accidents.
Motorways Police have advised drivers to use fog lights and maintain safe distances while driving. Travelers are urged to follow traffic signs and remain patient on affected routes. Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions and may reopen motorways once it is safe.
This NDMA alert comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety during extreme weather. Citizens are encouraged to check for updates before starting journeys and avoid unnecessary travel in heavy fog.
